OASys

Better cooling with less energy

Mechanical cooling is considered a necessity in California's warm climates. HVAC equipment is used extensively in California, both for commercial and residential customers. This high use of air conditioning is a large part of the peak energy demand during the warm months.

OASys is a technologically superior air conditioning system that provides facility cooling with 89 to 95 percent less energy use and 80  to 90 percent less demand use than vapor compression systems ( PIER   Technical Brief, California Energy Commission  ). The key to OASys is a unique heat exchanger combined with a single pump/blower configuration. Unlike a conventional air conditioning system, which
recirculates indoor air, OASys continuously conditions and delivers fresh outdoor air.

These two-stage evaporative cooling units can provide cooling capacity and comfort with a fraction of the energy required for traditional vapor compression cooling. Developed by the Davis Energy Group and manufactured by Speakman CRS, OASys uses a uniquely designed indirect/direct evaporating process to achieve a SEER 40+ rating.

This program has installed 15 OASys units in K-12 portable classrooms and offices. It will monitor their performance and demonstrate the technology to potential customers, work with the SDG&E engineering department to complete the technical analysis and document the savings, complete case studies, and finally help SDG&E mainstream the technology.
